Alien Alans and Shepherd Children!

 The tiny alien was wandering aimlessly in the darkness of the night. He couldn't understand anything. He was wondering, "Where did I get lost?"

At night, some aliens were traveling in their spacecraft. A piece of Earth was glowing, dotted with glitter. It was a unique sight. They found it fascinating to observe it up close.

They lowered their spacecraft. The dots were running around. What a miracle!

In reality, those glowing dots were fireflies. Seeing the moving shapes, the fireflies started running away. The aliens considered it a miracle.

In that alien swarm, there was also a small alien, two feet tall. He started chasing the fleeing fireflies, wanting to capture them and take them to his planet.

Enchanted by this unique sight on Earth, the aliens lost track of time. Morning was approaching. They had to leave Earth before the first rays of the sun. The creatures on Earth, frightened by them, could harm them.

All the aliens hurriedly ran towards their spacecraft and got into them.

Going inside, they discovered that the little alien was missing. They searched for him in the spacecraft, but the little alien was nowhere to be found.

Two or three larger aliens climbed down from the spacecraft and began searching for the little alien. They called out, "Alan Alan! Where are you?"

But Alan had drifted far away. He was chasing fireflies. He couldn't even hear his father or brother.

The first rays of the sun were about to appear. This would be disastrous for the aliens. So, the disappointed aliens returned to the spacecraft. The spacecraft flew into space.

Seeing the red sun in front of him, the little alien was frightened. What was this rising shape from below? He couldn't understand. He ran and sat under a dense tree.

It was a village of shepherds. Shepherds raised cows, goats, and sheep. They made a living by selling the animals' milk. They used the sheep's wool to make winter clothes for themselves and their families. Any leftover wool was sold to make a living by selling the clothes they made from it.

The shepherds' children didn't go to school because there wasn't a school nearby. Their children played and played all day long. Therefore, they were assigned the task of grazing the animals. The shepherd children also enjoyed this work because it gave them the opportunity to play and eat the fruits on the nearby trees.

The shepherd children saw the alien child sitting under the tree. They were a little frightened. The cows started mooing. The sheep and goats also started screaming. All the aliens stood around the child.

The alien child saw creatures with different and strange shapes in front of him. He was frightened and started crying loudly.

The shepherd children were at a loss. Why was he crying after seeing us? Even though they themselves were afraid of him, they stared at him in amazement.

Some time passed like this.

One of the shepherd children was the wisest. He went up to the aliens and asked, "Who are you? Where are you from? What is your name?"

The aliens didn't understand the language. He stared at them silently. The shepherd children became angry and started shouting at him. The older child calmed them down.

He then posed his question to the aliens. Then the alien child realized that he had a device that could convert any sound into its language and respond in that language. He opened his device.

Understanding the shepherd child's question, the alien replied, "My name is Elance. I come from an alien planet in space."

The children couldn't understand this riddle. Strange name: Elance. Aliens, space, and alien planets. These words were beyond their understanding.

Still, they asked the alien, "So how did you get here? Who else is with you?"

Alan told them the truth.

The children didn't believe it. They asked again, "How can we believe it? Because, in distant space, many creatures live. Are you some monster?"

Alan said fearfully, "No, no! It's not like that. There are thousands of planets and stars around your Earth. Almost every planet has some kind of creature. I am one of them. Just like you, but with a different shape."

The children were unwilling to believe it. They said, "How can we believe it? We've never seen or heard of anything like this before. You're lying!"

Alan said, "What do you even know? Do you know that your country, India, has already sent a spacecraft to the moon. Now it's about to send a human. Many countries on your Earth want to go closer to the sun."

The shepherd children were astonished. This child has so much knowledge about our Earth! We know nothing.

The children then asked, "How will you get back home? Can your people come back to get you?"

Alan replied, "After sunset, they'll come back to look for me. But I can't say when they'll come here. Because I'm a long way from where we landed."

The children reassured Alan, "Don't worry. We'll stay with you. We can't harm you."

Alan was reassured. He said, "Thank you, friends."

The older child asked, "You must be hungry! What do you eat?"

Alan explained, "When we go on space travel, we store our food in a capsule. I have many such capsules. I'll eat those."

All the children were hungry. They all started taking food out of their bags. They all, along with Alan, began eating under the same tree. Elance also took one of his capsules.

It was nearing dusk. The children discussed their fate. They had to return home, but they couldn't leave Elance alone. They decided that some would go back with the animals. They would inform their elders and return.

All the children would stay with Elance until he could return.

When the elders in the village learned of the situation, they also came to the pasture. They saw Elance. He seemed like a strange and fascinating creature. They thought, "We will capture this creature and hand it over to the government. This will bring them a good reward."

Hearing this, Elance began to cry. The shepherd children gathered around him and told him to calm down.

All the children opposed their elders. They said, "Elan is someone's child, just like us. He is our friend. We cannot let a friend from another planet come to harm. We will return home only after handing him over to his people."

The elders left disappointed.

All the children decided to search for the place where Elance had been left all night. They spread out, shouting "Elan, Elance," loudly, hoping that Elance's parents would hear and come to them.

The result was soon achieved. Aliens, in their spacecraft, had come looking for Elance. They heard the sound. They landed. The children brought them to Elance.

Seeing his parents, Elance hugged them. All the aliens were overjoyed.

Elan told his people everything. They were very pleased with the shepherd children's altruistic spirit. They took all the shepherd children on a space trip in their spacecraft. On their way, they gave each of the children beautiful gifts.

The shepherd children ran around and caught some fireflies. They placed them in a bottle and presented them to Elance. Elance was very happy.

Now the inhabitants of the two planets had become good friends.

एलियन एलांस और चरवाहा बच्चे !

नन्हा एलियन भटक  रहा था इधर उधर ! रात का अँधेरा। उसे कुछ सूझ नहीं  रहा था। सोच रहा था- यह कहाँ छूट गया मैं। 

रात कुछ एलियन अपने यान में घूम रहे थे।  पृथ्वी का एक टुकड़ा बिंदु बिंदु जगमगा रहा था। बड़ा अनूठा दृश्य था।  उन्हें इसे निकट से देखना रोचक लगा।

उन्होंने अपना यान नीच उतारा। बिंदु इधर उधर भाग रहे थे।  यह कैसा चमत्कार !

वास्तव में, वह जगमगाते बिंदु, जुगनू थे।  हिलती डुलती आकृतियों को देख कर, जुगनू  भागने लगे थे।  एलियन इसे चमत्कार समझ रहे थे। 

उस एलियन झुण्ड में, एक छोटा एलियन भी था।  दो फुट का।  वह भाग रहे जुगनुओं को पकड़ने उनके पीछे भागने लगा।  वह उन्हें पकड़ कर अपने ग्रह में ले जाना चाहता था।  

पृथ्वी पर यह अनूठा दृश्य देख कर मुग्ध एलियंस को समय का ध्यान ही नहीं रहा।  सुबह होने को थी।  उन्हें सूरज की पहले किरण से पहले ही पृथ्वी को छोड़ देना था। पृथ्वी के प्राणी, उनसे भयभीत हो  कर,उन्हें हानि  पहुंचा सकते थे। 

सभी एलियंस  जल्दी जल्दी अपने यान की ओर भागने लगे। और अपने  यान में घुस गए। 

अंदर जा कर  उन्हें पता चला कि छोटा एलियन नहीं है। उन्होंने यान में उसे खोजा। किन्तु, छोटा एलियन कहीं  नहीं था। 

दो तीन बड़े एलियन यान से नीचे उतर कर छोटे एलियन को खोजने लगे।  वह उसे पुकार  रहे  थे - एलांस एलांस ! तुम कहा हो !

किन्तु, एलांस बहुत दूर निकल गया था। वह जुगनुओं के पीछे भागता  चला जा रहा था। उसे अपने पिता भाई की आवाज तक नहीं सुनाई दे रही थी ।  

सूरज की पहली किरण फूटने वाली थी। यह एलियंस के लिए संकटपूर्ण होता।  इसलिए, निराश एलियंस वापस यान में चले गए। यान अंतरिक्ष की ओर उड़ चला। 

लाल लाल सूरज को सामने देख कर छोटा एलियन सहम गया।  यह नीचे से ऊपर उठती आकृति क्या है ? उसे समझ नहीं आ रहा था। वह भागता हुआ एक घने पेड़ के नीचे बैठ गया। 

वह चरवाहों का एक गाँव था।  चरवाहे, गाय, बकरी  और भेड़ें पालते थे। इन पशुओं का दूध बेच कर वह अपना जीवन यापन करते थे।   भेड़ों की ऊन से, वह स्वयं और अपने परिवार के लिए सर्दियों के कपडे बना लिया करते थे। ऊन  बचने पर उनसे बने वस्त्र बेच कर भी गुजारा किया जाता था। 

चरवाहों के बच्चे स्कूल नहीं जाते थे।  क्योंकि,  आसपास कोई विद्यालय था भी नहीं।  उनके बच्चे दिन भर खेलते कूदते रहते थे। इसलिए उन्हें पशुओं को  चराने का काम सौंप दिया गया था।  यह काम चरवाहा बच्चों को भी खूब पसंद आया था।  क्योंकि, इससे उन्हें खूब खेलने और पास के  पेड़ों पर लगे फलों को खाने का अवसर भी मिल जाता था। 

चरवाहा बच्चों ने पेड़ के नीचे बैठे एलियंस बच्चे को देखा।  वह थोड़ा भयभीत हुए।  गाये रम्भाने लगी। भेड़  बकरियां भी चिल्लाने लगीं। सभी एलियंस बच्चे को घेर कर खड़े थे। 

एलियंस  बच्चे ने, अपने सामने भिन्न और विचित्र आकृतियों वाले जीवों को देखा।  वह डर गया। जोर जोर से रोने लगा।

चरवाहा बच्चों को कुछ समझ नहीं आ रहा था। हमे देख कर वह क्यों रो रहा था। जबकि, वह खुद उससे डरे हुए थे। वह चकित से उसे देखते रहे। 

ऐसे ही कुछ समय बीत गया । 

चरवाहा बच्चों में एक बड़ा बच्चा समझदार था। वह एलियंस के पास गया। उसने पूछा - तुम कौन हो ? कहाँ से आये हो ? तुम्हारा नाम क्या है ?

एलियंस को भाषा समझ में  नहीं आई।  वह  चुपचाप उन्हें देखता रहा। इस पर चरवाहा बच्चे क्रोधित हो कर उस पर चिल्लाने लगे।  बड़े बच्चे ने उन्हें शांत कराया।  

उसने फिर अपना सवाल एलियंस के सामने रखा।  तभी एलियंस बच्चे को ध्यान आया कि उसके पास एक ऐसा यन्त्र है, जो किसी भी ध्वनि को उसकी भाषा में परिवर्तित कर सकता है और उसी भाषा में उत्तर भी दे सकता था। उस  ने अपना यन्त्र खोल लिया। 

चरवाहा बच्चे का प्रश्न समझ कर एलियंस ने उत्तर दिया - मेरा नाम एलांस  है। मैं अंतरिक्ष के एलियंस ग्रह से आया हूँ। 

बच्चों को यह पहेली समझ में न आई।  विचित्र नाम एलांस।  एलियंस, अंतरिक्ष और एलियंस ग्रह। यह तमाम शब्द उनकी समझ से बाहर थे। 

फिर भी उन्होंने एलियन से पूछा - तो तुम यहाँ कैसे आये ? तुम्हारे साथ और कौन है ?

एलांस ने उन्हें सब सच बता दिया।

बच्चों को विश्वास नहीं हुआ।  उन्होंने फिर पूछा - हम कैसे मान लें ! क्योंकि, सुदूर अंतरिक्ष में कई जीव रहते है।  कहीं तुम कोई राक्षस तो नहीं !

एलांस सहम कर बोला- नहीं नहीं ! ऐसा नहीं है।  तुम्हारी पृथ्वी के चारों और हजारों ग्रह और नक्षत्र है। लगभग, प्रत्येक ग्रह में कोई न कोई जीव है। मैं भी उनमें से एक हूँ। ठीक तुम लोगो की तरह।  किन्तु, भिन्न आकृति वाला। 

बच्चे मानने को तैयार नहीं थे।  वह बोले - हम कैसे मान लें।  हमने तो पहले कभी ऐसा नहीं देखा सुना।  तुम झूठ बोल रहे हो !

एलांस बोला- तुम्हे मालूम ही क्या है ? क्या तुम जानते हो कि तुम्हारा भारत देश भी चाँद पर अपना यान भेज चुका है।  अब वह एक इंसान को भेजने वाला है।  तुम्हारी पृथ्वी के कई देश सूर्य के निकट जाना चाहते है।  

चरवाहा बच्चे चकित थे। इस बच्चे को हमारी पृथ्वी का इतना ज्ञान ! हम लोग कुछ भी नहीं जानते।  

अब बच्चों ने पूछा- तुम अब अपने घर कैसे वापस जाओगे? क्या तुम्हारे लोग तुम्हे लेने वापस आ सकते है? 

एलांस बोला - सूरज डूबने के बाद, वह मुझे ढूंढने वापस आएंगे।  किन्तु यहाँ आएंगे, मैं कह नहीं सकता। क्योंकि, हम लोग जहाँ उतरे थे, मैं उस जगह से काफी दूर आ चुका हूँ।

बच्चों ने एलांस को आश्वस्त किया- तुम घबराओ नहीं।  हम तुम्हारे साथ ही रहेंगे।  तुम्हे को नुकसान नहीं पहुंचा सकता।  

एलांस आश्वस्त हुआ।  बोला- धन्यवाद मित्रों।  

बड़े बच्चे ने पूछा- तुम्हे भूख लगी होगी ! क्या खाते हो तुम लोग ?

एलांस ने बताया- हम लोग जब अंतरिक्ष की सैर को निकलते है, तब अपना भोजन एक कैप्सूल में परिवर्तित कर रख लेते है।  मेरे पास ऐसे बहुत से कैप्सूल है।  मैं उन्हें ही खाऊंगा। 

सभी बच्चों को भूख लग आई थी। सभी ने, अपनी पोटली से खाना निकलना शुरू कर दिया।  वह सभी, एलांस के साथ, उसी पेड़ के  नीचे खाने लगे। एलांस ने भी अपना एक कैप्सूल  खा लिया।  

शाम होने को थी।  बच्चों ने आपस में बात की।  उन्हें वापस घर जाना होगा।  किन्तु, एलांस को अकेला नहीं छोड़ सकते।  इस पर सभी बच्चों ने निर्णय किया कि कुछ बच्चे पशुओं के साथ वापस जायेंगे।  वह अपने बड़ों को सब बता कर, वापस आ जायेंगे। 

एलांस जब तक वापस नहीं जा पाता, सभी बच्चे उसके साथ ही रहेंगे। 

जब गाँव में बड़ों को मालूम हुआ तो वह भी चरागाह में आ गए।  उन्होंने एलांस को देखा। विचित्र और आकर्षक जीव लगा।  उन्होंने सोचा - हम इस जीव को पकड़ कर सरकार को सौंप देंगे। इससे उन्हें बढ़िया इनाम मिलेगा। 

यह जान कर एलांस रोने लगा।  चरवाहे बच्चे उसके चारों और एकत्र हो गए।  उन्होंने, उसे शांत रहने को कहा। 

सभी बच्चों ने, अपने बड़ों का  विरोध किया।  उन्होंने कहा- एलांस हमारी तरह ही किसी का बच्चा है।  वह हमारा मित्र भी है। किसी दूसरे ग्रह  से आये मित्र को हम नुकसान होने नहीं  दे सकते।  हम लोग इसे, इसके लोगों को सौंप कर ही घर वापस आएंगे।  

बड़े निराश हो कर चले गए। 

सभी बच्चों ने पूरी रात एलांस के छूटने वाली जगह ढूंढने का निर्णय किया। वह चारों ओर फ़ैल गए।  वह जोर जोर से एलांस एलांस चिल्ला रहे थे।  ताकि, एलांस के माता पिता इसे सुन कर उनके पास आ जाएँ।  

इसका फल शीघ्र मिल गया।  एलियंस, अपने यान में बैठ कर एलांस को खोजने आये थे। उन्होंने आवाज सुनी।  वह नीचे उतरे।  बच्चे उन्हें लेकर एलांस के पास आये। 

अपने माँ पिता को देख कर  एलांस उनसे लिपट गया।  सभी एलियंस बहुत खुश हुए। 

एलांस ने अपने लोगों को सभी बातें बता दी।  वह चरवाहा बच्चों की इस परोपकारी भावना से बहुत खुश हुए।  उन्होंने सभी चरवाहा बच्चों को अपने यान में बैठा कर अंतरिक्ष की सैर कराई।  जाते समय उन्होंने सभी बच्चों को सुन्दर उपहार दिए।  

चरवाहा बच्चों ने, दौड़ दौड़ कर कुछ जुगनू पकड़े।  उन्हें एक बोतल में रख कर एलांस को भेंट किया।  एलांस बहुत खुश हुआ। 

अब दो ग्रहों के निवासी परस्पर अच्छे मित्र बन गए थे। 

जंगल मे साक्षरता- क्रांति !

साक्षरता की बयार जंगल मे भी बह चली थी।

 

वनराज शेर के आदेश थे कि सभी पशु पक्षियों को अपने बच्चों को सरकारी विद्यालय भेजना होगा। उन्होंने पूरी शिक्षा व्यवस्था निःशुल्क कर दी थी। इसलिये कोई पशु या पक्षी गरीब होने का बहाना नहीं कर सकता था। सभी को बिना किसी प्रजाति के भेदभाव के, विद्यालय में पढ़ना और पढ़ाया जाना ही था।

 

इस का परिणाम बहुत अच्छा रहा।  जंगल की साक्षरता शतप्रतिशत गई।  भारत देश के केरल राज्य की तरह। पढ़े लिखे युवाओं की फ़ौज जंगल पहाड़ झाड़ियों में देखी जा सकती थी.

 

जैसा कि होता है, साक्षरता के बाद परिवर्तन की हवा बहने लगती है। नए विचार दिमाग में आने लगते है. यह विचार सबसे उपयुक्त भी लगते हैं. साक्षर वन में भी वैचारिक परिवर्तन की हवा बहने लगी। युवा पशु पक्षी बात  करने लगे। बात पहले दो मित्रों  में होती।  फिर मित्रों के जमावड़े में होती।  ऐसा करते करते, यह हवा पूरे पशु समाज और वन-राज्य में फ़ैल गई।

 

युवाओं के तर्क थे।  वनराज कितने पढ़े हैं? क्या उन्होंने कोई डिग्री प्राप्त कर रखी है? यदि, वह साक्षर नहीं हैं तो वह किस प्रकार से वन पर राज्य कर सकते हैं? हमने कई साल पढ़ाई की है। हम भाषा और विषय भली भाँति जानते है।  क्या वनराज यह सब  जानते है ? तो वह वनराज कैसे बने रह सकते है ?

 

झुण्ड में विचार विमर्श करने के पश्चात् युवा जब अपने घर जाते तो उपरोक्त तमाम प्रश्न उनके मन मस्तिष्क में तैरते रहते।  वह कभी कभी इसे अपने माता पिता या बड़ों के समक्ष उठाते। युवा भालू अपने पिता के सामने गुर्राता - अनपढ़ शेर हमारा राजा क्यों ? शावक भी क्रोध में भरे दांत पीसते।  चिड़िया भीं अब कुछ अधिक कर्कश स्वर निकालने लगी थी।  युवा बन्दर एक वृक्ष से दूसरे वृक्ष इतना अधिक क्रोधित हो कूदते कि कुछ कमजोर डालें टूट भी जाती।  युवा कौवों की कांव कांव भी कुछ अधिक बढ़ चली थी।

 

माता पिता, उन्हें समझाने के प्रयास करते।  किन्तु,युवा बच्चों को समझा नहीं पाते।  उनके अपने  तर्क थे।  पढ़ाई लिखाई की क्या काट हो सकती है भला ! हार कर बड़े-वृद्ध पशु पक्षी  चुप रह जाते।  इससे  युवाओं का जोश दुगुना हो जाता। वह अपने बड़ो को निरुत्तर जो कर देते थे। 

 

एक दिन युवाओं ने एक बड़ी  सभा की।  लम्बे समय तक भाषण चले। तर्क  वितर्क हुए। लम्बे वार्तालाप का परिणाम एक प्रस्ताव के रूप में सामने आया। 

 

युवा पशुओं ने प्रस्ताव पारित किया - वनराज निरक्षर है।  इसलिए वह गद्दी छोड़ें।  क्योंकि, निरक्षर इतना बड़ा जंगल राज्य चला नहीं सकता।  दूसरे जंगलों से संपर्क के लिए साक्षर होने बहुत आवश्यक है।  संपर्क की समान भाषा आना तो बहुत आवश्यक है।  इसलिए, साक्षर युवाओं में कोई राजा बने और राजा के मंत्रिपरिषद के सदस्य भी। 

 

होते होते यह बात और प्रस्ताव  वनराज तक पहुंचा।  उन्होंने उसे ध्यान से पढ़ा।  अपने महामंत्री भालूमल को बुलाया।  भालूमल को प्रस्ताव दिखाया।

 

भालूमल  प्रस्ताव पढ़ कर मुस्कराये।  बोले - राजन, साक्षरता की हवा बह रही है।

 

वनराज ठहाका लगा कर हँसे - लगता है तुम भी मुझ से छुटकारा पाना  चाहते हो !

 

महामंत्री नतमस्तक होते हुए बोले - राजन, शारीरिक बल और बुद्धिमता में आपका कोई  सानी नहीं।  यह जंगल और उसकी एकता आपके बल पर है। 

 

वनराज ने कहा- युवा बच्चे, पढ़ लिख कर नई जानकारियां हासिल कर चुके है. हम लोगों से, उनके विचारों में अंतर स्वाभाविक है. इसे बिलकुल नकारा नहीं जा सकता. उनके विचार जान कर, उन्हें समझा कर ही कुछ किया जा सकता है.

 

वनराज गंभीर हो कर बोले – फिलहाल, मेरा इसमें बोलना ठीक नहीं। इसलिए आप इस मामले को देखिये।  

 

विशाल राज प्रांगण में सभी को आमंत्रित किया गया। निर्धारित समय से पूर्व ही प्रांगण पशु पक्षियों से ठसाठस भर गया।  पूरे सभागार में कोलाहल मचा हुआ था।  सभी अपनी बात रखने के लिए उत्सुक थे। 

 

निर्धारित समय पर महामंत्री भालूमल मंच पर पहुंचे।  सभी पशु- पक्षियों ने उनका तालियां बजा कर स्वागत किया। 

 

भालूमल ने चारों और एक दृष्टि डालने के बाद कहा - अरे, यहाँ तो पढ़ेलिखे युवा पशुपक्षियों को आमंत्रित किया गया है। तो यहाँ इन युवाओं के अनपढ़ माता पिता क्या कर रहे हैं ?

 

भालूमल  क्रोधित होता हुआ बोला - सभी अनपढ़ पशु-पक्षी यहाँ से निकल जाएँ।  यह पढ़े लिखों की सभा है।

 

इस पर कुछ युवाओं ने विरोध किया - यह हमारे माता पिता हैं।  इन्होने हमें पाला पोषा है। 

 

भालूमल ने प्रतिवाद किया - तो क्या हुआ।  यह पढ़े लिखे तो नहीं है !

 

सभी अनपढ़ पशु पक्षियों को सभा से बाहर जाना पड़ा।  युवाओं को बुरा लगा।  इससे क्षुब्ध कुछ युवाओं ने सभागार का त्याग कर दिया। 

 

महामंत्री ने कहा- यह क्या ? मैंने अनपढ़ों को जाने के लिए कहा। उनके पढ़े लिखे बच्चे क्यों चले गए ?

 

सब निरुत्तर थे।

 

अब भालुमल ने कहना प्रारम्भ किया - आप सब काफी पढ़े लिखे है। किसी ने स्नातक किया होगा तो कोई परास्नातक होगा।  कोई इंजीनियर या डॉक्टर बना होगा। किन्तु, आपमें से कितने हैं, जिन्होंने अध्यापक बनने के लिए पढ़ाई की है ?

 

सभागार में चुप्पी थी।  भालूमल कुछ देर तक सबको देखते रहे।  फिर बोले - क्या आप लोग अपने  बच्चों को पढ़ाना - लिखाना नहीं चाहते ? तो आपमें से किसी ने अध्यापक बनने के लिए पढ़ाई क्यों नहीं की ?

 

युवा स्वयं को लज्जित अनुभव कर रहे थे।

 

भालूमल ने कहा - अब मैं प्रत्येक प्रजाति के शिक्षित युवा से एक प्रश्न पूछूंगा। यह प्रश्न दूसरी प्रजाति के सन्दर्भ में होगा।

 

महामंत्री ने युवा शेर से पूछा - भालू क्या खाता है?

 

उन्होंने - भालू से पूछा - हिरन क्या खाते हैं?

 

भालूमल ने ऊँट से पूछा - बन्दर पेड़ पर क्यों चढ़ा रहता है ? वह क्या खाता है ?

 

उन्होंने बन्दर से पूछा - पक्षियों का भोजन क्या है ? क्या वह मांस खाते हैं ?

 

किसी अन्य प्रजाति के जंतुओं को इन प्रश्नों का उत्तर नहीं मालूम था।

 

भालूमल ने व्यंग्यात्मक मुस्कान के साथ वन में शासन के इच्छुक युवा से पूछा - बारिश में जब पूरे वनक्षेत्र में पानी  भर जाता है। आप सभी के भोजन के भोजन  का प्रबंध कैसे करोगे ? अनाज कहाँ से लाओगे ?

 

युवा निरुत्तर था। 

 

उन्होंने एक इंजीनियर बन्दर से पूछा - तुम वृक्षों में निवास करते हो। तुम जलभराव के समय एक पेड़ से दूसरे पेड़ पर छलांग भर कर नदी पार कर सकते हो। किन्तु, जंगल में जलभराव के समय सब नदी कैसे पार करते हैं ?

 

बन्दर बगलें झांकने लगा।

 

महामंत्री ने कहना प्रारम्भ किया – “आप में से किसी के पास भी मेरे प्रश्नों का उत्तर नहीं था। किन्तु, वनराज  से पूछो वह सबके उत्तर जानते हैं। उन्होंने सभी पशुपक्षियों के खानपान, रहन सहन और आदतों के विषय में जानकारी की है।  उन्हें सार्वजनिक जीवन का अनुभव है। वह वर्षा ऋतू से पर्याप्त पूर्व अनाज का भण्डारण कर लेते है.”

 

“एक शासक के लिए आवश्यक होता है कि वह भविष्य को भांप कर योजनाएं बनाये।  वनराज, बारिश से  पहले ही अनाज इत्यादि ऊंची गुफाओं में रखवा लेते है।  बारिश की दशा में उस संरक्षित अनाज से कमा चलाया जा सकता है।

 

“उफनती नदी को बहुत से पशु पार कर सकते है। किन्तु, छोटे पशुओं के लिए यह संभव नहीं। यहाँ गजराज सहयोग करते हैं। वह छोटे पशुओं को अपनी पीठ पर बैठा कर नदी पार ले जाते और वापस  लाते है।  एक सुदृढ़ राज्य के लिए  सहयोग और सहकार बहुत आवश्यक है। 

 

चलते चलते भालूमल ने युवा भीड़ से पूछा - क्या आप लोग बता सकते हैं कि सभागार का मंच ऊंचा और दूर क्यों होता है ?

 

युवा निरुत्तर थे। 

 

भालू ने उत्तर दिया - क्योंकि, मैं तुम सबसे अधिक ज्ञानवान और अनुभवी होने के कारण अलग हूँ । निसंदेह तुम लोग पढ़े लिखे हो।  किन्तु, तुममें अनुभव की कमी है। इसलिए मंच पर नहीं हो। इसके अतिरिक्त मंच से एक दूसरे को अच्छी तरह से देखा जा सकता है।  मनोभावों को भांपा जा सकता है।  इससे व्यक्तिगत सर्वोच्चता और सम्मान की भावना भी आती है।

 

सभी युवा पशु पक्षी कुछ  सोचते विचारते अपने घरों को चले गए।

 

किन्तु, बात यहीं समाप्त नहीं हुई।  इस सभा के बाद, वनराज ने अपनी मंत्री परिषद् में पढ़े लिखे युवाओं को भी पद दिए। किसी को  बाँध, पुल और नाव बनाने का कार्य सौंप दिया। किसी को कृषि विकास सम्बन्धी कार्य सौंप. पशु पक्षी आवास के लिए योजनाये बनाने के आदेश भी दिए. कुछ पढ़े लिखे युवाओं को अध्यापन का प्रशिक्षण भी दिलवाया ताकि भविष्य में अध्यापकों की कमी न हो।

Literacy - revolution in the forest

The winds of literacy had swept through the forest as well.

The lion had ordered that all animals and birds must send their children to government schools. He had made the entire education system free. Therefore, no animal or bird could pretend to be poor. Everyone, without any discrimination of race, had to study and be taught in school.

The result was excellent. The forest reached 100% literacy. Just like the state of Kerala in India. Armies of educated youth could be seen in the forests, mountains, and bushes.

As happens, after literacy, winds of change begin to blow. New ideas begin to come to mind. These ideas also seem most appropriate. Winds of ideological change began to blow in the literate forest as well. Young animals and birds began to talk. First, the conversation would take place between two friends, then in a gathering of friends. In this way, this wind spread throughout the animal community and the forest kingdom.

The young people argued. How educated is the king of the forest? Has he obtained a degree? If he isn't literate, how can he rule the forest? We've studied for years. We know the language and subjects well. Does the King of the Forest know all this? So how can he remain the King of the Forest?

After discussing in the group, when the young men returned home, all the above questions would linger in their minds. They would sometimes raise them with their parents or elders. The young bear would growl at his father, "Why is an illiterate lion our king?" The cubs would grind their teeth in anger. The birds had also become more hoarse. The young monkeys would jump from tree to tree in such anger that some weak branches would break. The cawing of the young crows had also increased.

Parents tried to reason with them, but they couldn't convince the young children. They had their own arguments. What could possibly counter education? Defeated, even the older animals and birds would remain silent. This would only double the enthusiasm of the young ones. He used to leave his elders speechless.

One day, the young animals held a large gathering. Speeches went on for a long time, and arguments ensued. The long discussion resulted in a resolution.

The young animals passed a resolution: "The King of the Forest is illiterate. Therefore, he should abdicate his throne. An illiterate person cannot run such a vast forest kingdom. Literacy is essential for communication with other forests. Knowledge of a common language is essential. Therefore, a literate youth should become the king and a member of the king's council of ministers."

The news and the proposal reached the King of the Forest. He carefully read it. He summoned his Chief Minister, Bhalumal. He showed him the proposal.

Bhalumal smiled after reading the resolution. He said, "King, the wind of literacy is blowing."

The King of the Forest laughed loudly, "It seems you too want to get rid of me!"

The Chief Minister bowed low and said, "King, you have no equal in physical strength and intelligence." This forest and its unity depend on your strength.

Vanraj said, "Young children have acquired new knowledge through education. It's natural for their views to differ from ours. This cannot be denied at all. Only by understanding their views and making them understand can something be done."

Vanraj said seriously, "Right now, it's not right for me to comment on this. So, please look into the matter."

Everyone was invited to the huge royal courtyard. The courtyard was packed with animals and birds even before the scheduled time. The entire auditorium was bustling with noise. Everyone was eager to express their views.

At the appointed time, General Secretary Bhalumal arrived on stage. All the animals and birds welcomed him with applause.

After a glance around, Bhalumal said, "Hey, educated young animals and birds have been invited here. So what are the illiterate parents of these young people doing here?"

Bhalumal said angrily, "All the illiterate animals and birds should leave." This is a gathering of educated people.

Some young people objected, "These are our parents. They raised us."

Bhalumal countered, "So what? They're not educated!"

All the illiterate animals and birds had to leave the gathering. The young people were offended. Angered by this, some left the auditorium.

The General Secretary said, "What is this? I asked the illiterate people to leave. Why did their educated children leave?"

Everyone was speechless.

Now Bhalumal began, "You're all quite educated. Some may have graduated, some may have done postgraduate work. Some may have become engineers or doctors. But how many of you have studied to become teachers?"

The auditorium was silent. Bhalumal stared at everyone for a while. Then he said, "Don't you want to educate your children? Then why didn't any of you study to become teachers?"

The young men felt embarrassed.

Bhaloomal said, "Now I will ask a question to an educated young man from each species. This question will be in the context of another species."

The Chief Minister asked the young lion, "What does a bear eat?"

He asked the bear, "What does a deer eat?"

Bhaloomal asked the camel, "Why does a monkey climb trees? What does it eat?"

He asked the monkey, "What do birds eat? Do they eat meat?"

Animals of any other species did not know the answers to these questions.

With a sarcastic smile, Bhaloomal asked the young man, who aspired to rule the forest, "During the rains, when the entire forest is covered with trees,

The area is flooded. How will you arrange food for everyone? Where will you get the grains?

The young man was speechless.

He asked an engineer monkey, "You live in trees. You can cross the river by jumping from one tree to another during floods. But how do people cross the river during floods in the forest?"

The monkey looked around.

The General Secretary began, "None of you had answers to my questions. But ask the King of the Forest; he knows all the answers. He has studied the diet, lifestyle, and habits of all the animals and birds. He has experience in public life. He stores grains well in advance of the rainy season."

"It is essential for a ruler to anticipate the future and make plans. The king of the forest stores grains and other crops in high caves before the rains. During the rains, the stored grains can be used for livelihood."

"Many animals can cross a raging river, but this is not possible for smaller animals. Here, the king of elephants helps. He carries the smaller animals on his back, carries them across the river, and brings them back. Cooperation and collaboration are essential for a strong state."

As they walked, Bhalumal asked the young crowd, "Can you explain why the stage in the auditorium is high and far away?"

The young people were speechless.

The bear replied, "Because I am different from you all, being the most knowledgeable and experienced. You are undoubtedly educated. But you lack experience, which is why you are not on stage. Besides, from the stage, one can see each other clearly. One can sense emotions. This also fosters a sense of personal superiority and respect."

All the young animals and birds went back to their homes, pondering.

But the matter didn't end there. After this meeting, Vanraj also appointed educated young men to positions in his council of ministers. He entrusted some with the task of building dams, bridges, and boats. He assigned others to agricultural development. He also ordered the development of plans for bird and animal habitats. He also provided some educated young men with teaching training so that there would be no shortage of teachers in the future.

छुटकी! का हाथी

छुटकी ने अभी अभी ड्रॉइंग क्लास जॉइन की थी. रेखाओं को मिलाते हुए चित्र बनाना उसे भाता था. वह  अपनी स्टडी टेबल पर बैठ कर सादे कागज पर रेखाएं खींचती रहती थी। 

उसके इस प्रयास को माँ और पिता ने देखा। उन्हें लगा कि छुटकी ड्राइंग सीखना चाहती है।  कला किसी भी बच्चे में सकरात्मक भाव पैदा करती है।  उसमे कुछ करने की भावना पैदा करती है। 

उन्होंने छुटकी से पूछा - बिटिया, क्या तुम्हे ड्राइंग बनाना पसंद है ? क्या तुम ड्राइंग सीखना चाहोगी ? तुम्हारा ड्राइंग स्कूल में एडमिशन करा दें। 

 छुटकी न  सहमति में सर हिलाया।  इस  के बाद, छुटकी का एक ड्राइंग स्कूल में एडमिशन करवा दिया गया था। 

छुटकी क्लास के बाद, घर आ कर अपनी मेज पर बैठ गयी . उसने ड्रॉइंग पेपर निकाला. पेंसिल को नुकीला बनाया. तभी सटीक चित्र बन सकता था. 

 छुटकी, ड्राइंग क्लास से  वापस आने के बाद अपनी मेज पर बैठ गई। उसने ड्रॉर से अपना ड्राइंग बॉक्स निकला।  बॉक्स में भिन्न प्रकार की पेन्सिलें थी।  ड्राइंग के लिए यह बहुत आवश्यक है।  साथ में इरेज़र और शार्पनर भी था। बारह इंच और छह इंच की पटरियां भी मेज पर सजा दी।  

अब छुटकी ने सफेद ड्रॉइंग पेपर पर काली पेंसिल से रेखाएं बनानी शुरू कर दी। वह एक रेखा के साथ दूसरी  रेखा को बनाती। उसने निरंतर, एक रेखा बनाई .उसके निकट दूसरी रेखाएं बनाई. फिर दो रेखाओं तीसरी रेखा से उन्हें मिलाना प्रारंभ कर दिया. वह एक रेखा से जोड़ते हुए दूसरी रेखा खींचने लगी। उसका यह प्रयास देर तक चलता रहा। 

जब उसे लगा कि आकृति पूरी हो गई है तब उसने कागज अपनी आँखों के सामने रखा । हाँ, यह हाथी ही था।  अर्थात, उसका हाथी बन गया था। 

छुटकी देर तक अपनी  बनाई आकृति देखती रही। वह स्वयं पर मुग्ध सी थी। मैंने अभी सीखना शुरू किया है। किन्तु, कितनी अच्छी आर्ट  बना लेती हूँ मैं! वह आकृति को देर तक देखती रही।  

यकायक, छुटकी को लगा आकृति हिल रही है। उसकी बनाई आकृति आकार लेने लगी थी। उसमे त्रिआयाम दिखने लगे थे। ऐसा प्रतीत हो रहा था कि कोई सजीव आकृति हिल रही थी। 

यह देख कर छुटकी ने घबरा गई। उसने अपनी आँखे बंद कर ली।  यह कैसा भ्रम ! वह सोच रही थी। 

तभी उसे प्रतीत हुआ कि उसकी मेज पर कोई बैठा है। कौन हो सकता है !

छुटकी ने धीरे धीरे आँखे खोली।  मेज पर कोई अनगढ़ आकृति बैठी हुई थी। वह हिल रही थी। बड़ा सा सर हिला डुला रही थी।

यह देख कर छुटकी की चींख निकल गई- अरे यह क्या ! तुम कौन हो ! 

इस पर आकृति बोली - मैं तुम्हारा हाथी हूँ छुटकी ! अभी अभी ही तो तुमने मुझे कागज पर उकेरा था।  

छुटकी  घबड़ा गई - तुम... और हाथी ! किसने बनाया  तुम्हे ! क्या मैंने ! हाथी तो ऐसा नहीं होता है। तुम्हारा शरीर चारों तरफ से नुकीला है। सूंड, कान, पैर और पूँछ नुकीली है। पूरा शरीर बेडौल और टेढ़ा-मेढ़ा है। 

हाथी बोला - हाँ ! तुम सही कह रही हो। लेकिन मैं हाथी ही हूँ। तुम्हारा  बनाया हुआ हाथी।  अभी ही तो तुमने अपनी नन्ही उँगलियों से मुझे ड्राइंग पेपर पर उकेरा था। 

छुटकी के आंसू निकल आये।  वह सोचने लगी -यह हाथी है! मैंने  ऐसा हाथी बनाया ! हाथी कहीं ऐसा होता है ! कितनी ख़राब ड्राइंग है मेरी !

छुटकी की आँखों से आंसू टपा-टप गिरने लगे। 

हाथी चौंक पड़ा। उसने सूंड उठा हलकी हवा छुटकी तरफ छोड़ी।  बोला - तुम रो क्यों रही हो ? क्या  मैं इतना बुरा हूँ ? किन्तु, मैं तो तुम्हारा हाथी हूँ। तुम्हारी रचना। 

छुटकी, उदास स्वर में बोली - तुम इतने बुरे नहीं हो।  मेरी ड्राइंग बुरी है। मैंने तुम्हे कितना बुरा गढ़ा है। हाथी जैसे लग ही नहीं रहे। जगह जगह से कोने निकले हुए है। कान, सूंड और पैर  नोकदार है। ईश्वर का बनाया हाथी कहीं ऐसा होता है। मैं सचमुच बुरी आर्टिस्ट हूँ !

हाथी, ठहाका मार कर हंसा। छुटकी चकित सी उसे देखती रही।  फिर बोली - तुम हंस क्यों रहे हो? मैंने कितनी बुरी  ड्राइंग बनाई  है, इस पर !

हाथी, गंभीर हो कर बोला - नहीं, तुम्हारी रचना पर नहीं।  तुम्हारी ड्राइंग बुरी नहीं है।   तुमने अभी ड्राइंग सीखना शुरू किया है।  तुम अभी बहुत छोटी भी हो।  तुम्हारे हाथों में अभी वह सफाई और नियंत्रण नहीं है।  कोई भी रचना अभ्यास के साथ सुगढ़ बनती है। तुम प्रयास और अभ्यास करती रहो। मुझे तुम सुगढ़ हाथी बना दोगी। 

बस तुम्हे करना इतना है कि पहले आँखे बंद कर मेरा ध्यान करो। मैं वास्तव में कैसा लगता हूँ, उसे सोचो।  फिर उसके अनुसार पेंसिल से आउटलाइन बनाना शुरू करो।  सर और शरीर का अनुपात, पैरों की मोटाई और नाखूनों का आकार, पूँछ की लम्बाई और कान का सूप आकर, सब अपने ध्यान में लाओ। मेरी आँखे  शरीर के अनुपात में काफी छोटी होती है। ध्यान रखना। तुम कुछ प्रयास के बाद, अच्छा चित्र बनाने लगोगी। 

छुटकी हाथी की बातें ध्यान से सुन रही थी।  वह आश्वस्त लग रही थी कि वह निरंतर प्रयास और कल्पनाशीलता से अच्छी आकृतियां गढ़ सकती है।  

छुटकी को संतुष्ट  देख कर हाथी बोला - अच्छा छुटकी, अब मैं तुम्हारी आकृति बनने जा रहा हूँ।  तुम फिर प्रयास करती रहना।  मैं फिर मिलूंगा।  

हाथी ड्राइंग पेपर में समा गया।  

छटकी ने, पेंसिल नुकीली बनाई।  इरेज़र उठाया। आकृति को सुगढ़ हाथी बनाने में जुट गई।  

Chutki!'s Elephant

Chutki had just joined a drawing class. She loved drawing by joining lines. She would sit at her study table and draw lines on plain paper.

 

 

 

Her mother and father noticed her efforts and felt that Chutki wanted to learn drawing. Art creates positive emotions in any child. It instils a sense of accomplishment.

 

 

 

They asked Chutki, "Daughter, do you like drawing? Would you like to learn drawing? Let's enrol you in a drawing school."

 

 

 

Chutki nodded in agreement. After this, Chutki was enrolled in a drawing school.

 

 

 

After class, Chutki came home and sat at her desk. She took out the drawing paper and sharpened her pencil. Only then could she create a precise drawing.

 

 

 

After returning from drawing class, Chutki sat at her desk. She took out her drawing box from the drawer. The box contained different types of pencils. These are essential for drawing. An eraser and a sharpener were also included. Twelve-inch and six-inch rulers were also arranged on the table.

 

 

 

Chutki began drawing lines with a black pencil on the white drawing paper. She followed one line with another. She drew a line continuously, then another next to it. Then she began connecting two lines with a third. She began drawing another line, connecting one line with another. This effort continued for a long time.

 

 

 

When she felt the shape was complete, she held the paper in front of her eyes. Yes, it was an elephant. In other words, her elephant had been created.

 

 

 

Chutki stared at her drawing for a long time, fascinated by herself. "I've just started learning. But what a wonderful art I create!" She stared at the shape for a long time.

 

 

 

Suddenly, Chhutki felt the shape move. The shape she had drawn began to take shape. It began to appear three-dimensional. It seemed as if some living figure was moving.

 

 

 

Chhutki was frightened by this. She closed her eyes. What kind of illusion is this? She wondered.

 

 

 

Just then she realized that someone was sitting at her table. Who could it be?

 

 

 

Chhutki slowly opened her eyes. A shapeless figure was sitting on the table. It was moving. It was shaking its big head.

 

 

 

Seeing this, Chhutki screamed, "Hey, what is this? Who are you?"

 

 

 

The figure said, "I am your elephant, Chhutki! You just drew me on paper."

 

 

 

Chhutki panicked, "You... and an elephant! Who made you? Did I? An elephant is not like this. Your body is pointed all over. Your trunk, ears, legs, and tail are pointed. Your entire body is misshapen and crooked."

 

 

 

The elephant said, "Yes! You're right." But I am an elephant. An elephant you made. You just drew me on drawing paper with your tiny fingers.

 

 

 

Chhutki burst into tears. She thought, "This is an elephant! I made such an elephant! Does an elephant ever look like this? What a terrible drawing I have!"

 

 

 

Tears began to fall from Chhutki's eyes.

 

 

 

The elephant was startled. He lifted his trunk and blew a light breeze towards Chhutki. He said, "Why are you crying? Am I that bad? But I am your elephant. Your creation."

 

 

 

Chhutki said in a sad voice, "You're not that bad. My drawing is bad. I have sculpted you so badly. You do not even look like an elephant. There are corners sticking out in places. Your ears, trunk, and feet are pointed. Is there an elephant made by God like this? I am a bad artist!"

 

 

 

The elephant burst out laughing. Chhutki looked at him, astonished. Then she said, "Why are you laughing?" On how badly I have drawn!

 

 

 

The elephant, becoming serious, said, "No, not on your drawing. Your drawing is not bad. You have just started learning to draw. You are still very young. Your hands do not have the precision and control. Any design becomes refined with practice. Keep trying and practicing. You will make me into a fine elephant."

 

 

 

All you must do is close your eyes and contemplate me. Imagine what I look like. Then start drawing the outline with a pencil. Consider the proportions of the head and body, the thickness of the legs and the shape of the nails, the length of the tail, and the shape of the ears. My eyes are quite small in proportion to my body. Keep that in mind. With some practice, you'll start drawing well."

 

 

 

Chutki was listening intently to the elephant. She seemed confident that with continued effort and imagination, she could create good figures.

 

 

 

Seeing Chhutki satisfied, the elephant said, "Okay, Chhutki, now I'm going to draw your figure. You keep trying. I'll see you again."

 

 

 

The elephant disappeared into the drawing paper.

 

 

 

Chutki sharpened her pencil, picked up her eraser, and set about shaping the figure into a well-shaped elephant.

गरीब सोहन !

दो मित्र थे . सोहन और मोहन. दोनों में घनिष्ठ मित्रता थी. दोनों ही एक ही स्कूल में, एक ही कक्षा में पढ़ते थे.

किन्तु, उनमे एक विषमता थी. सोहन निर्धन परिवार से था, जबकि मोहन का परिवार काफी धनी था.  स्कूल में दूसरे अमीर  छात्र भी थे. किन्तु, मोहन ने सोहन से ही मित्रता की. 

सोहन को सरकार के शिक्षा का अधिकार कानून के कारण इस विद्यालय में प्रवेश मिला था . किन्तु, प्रवेश मात्र से कुछ नहीं होता. प्रवेश लेने के बाद यूनिफार्म, पुस्तके और दूसरे खर्चे भी होते थे. उन्हें वहन करना सोहन के पिता के लिए संभव नहीं था. 

स्कूल में, सोहन की फीस तो माफ़ थी. किन्तु, पुस्तकें और यूनिफार्म तो खरीदनी पड़ती थी. उसमे कोई कुछ नहीं कर सकता था. छात्रवृत्ति मिल जाये तो संभव है. 

सोहन के पिता ने, जान पहचान के, पूर्व की कक्षा के छात्रों से पुस्तकें मांग ली थी. सोहन को साधारण कपडे से बनी स्कूल ड्रेस भी मिल गई थी. किन्तु, उससे उसका काफी मजाक बनता था.

सहपाठी चिढाते कि सरकार की दया से एडमिशन तो करवा लिया. किन्तु, किताबों और ड्रेस के लिए पैसे कौन देगा. देखो कितना पुराना बस्ता है. किताबे भी पुरानी और उधडी हुई जिल्द वाली है. स्कूल बैग भी रंग खो चुका है. स्कूल यूनिफार्म भी मांगे की लगती है. 

उस स्कूल में, सप्ताह के एक दिन, सभी छात्र अपने पसंद की पोशाक पहन सकते थे. सभी छात्र इस छूट का पूरा पूरा लाभ उठाते। सभी छात्र महंगे और नए नए वस्त्र पहन कर आते थे. यहाँ तक कि मोहन भी महंगे वस्त्र पहन कर आता. केवल सोहन ही अपवाद था. 

सोहन के लिए यह दिन बड़ा खराब गुजरता था. उसके पास इतने पैसे नहीं थे कि वह महंगे कपडे पहन सकता. वह अधिकतर या तो स्कूल यूनिफार्म में आता या पुराने या मांगे गए कपडे पहन कर. यह वस्त्र भी किसी भी प्रकार से मोहन सहित स्कूल के अमीर बच्चों के बराबर के तो नहीं ही होते थे.

सोहन समझदार बच्चा था. वह सहपाठियों के ताने सुनता, अपने कपड़ों का मजाक समझता। वह सब सुनता. उसे बुरा भी लगता. किन्तु, सदैव मुस्कुराता रहता. वह कर भी क्या सकता था!

सोहन ने कभी अपने पिता से इसकी शिकायत नहीं की. वह उन्हें आर्थिक कठिनाई के इस समय में उन्हें मानसिक कष्ट नहीं देना चाहता था.

मोहन, यह सब देखा और सुना करता था. उसे सोहन के पुराने कपड़ों पर दया नहीं आती थी. बल्कि, उसे सोहन पर  सहपाठियों के तानों का बुरा लगता. वह कहता- "हम लोग अमीर हो तो क्या हुआ ? हम महंगे कपडे पहन सकते हैं. किन्तु, सोहन गरीब है. उसके पिता के पास हमारे पिताओं जितना धन नहीं है. इसलिए वह बढ़िया और महंगे कपडे नहीं पहन सकता. किन्तु, वह है तो हमारा साथी. हमें उसकी गरीबी का मजाक नहीं उड़ाना चाहिए.

"हम लोग यहाँ पढ़ने आये हैं. सोहन की पढ़ाई देखो. वह पढ़ने में तेज है. हमसे बहुत आगे रहता है. हमें उसकी बुद्धिमत्ता का सम्मान करना चाहिए."

किन्तु, कोई मोहन की बात नहीं सुनता. सभी उसकी खिल्ली उड़ाते.

हताश हो कर, मोहन ने एक दिन सोहन से कहा- मित्र, सभी लोग तुम्हारी खिल्ली उड़ाते है. क्या तुम्हे बुरा नहीं लगता? यदि तुम बुरा न मानो तो मैं तुम्हे अच्छे कपडे खरीद कर दे सकता हूँ. इस प्रकार से तुम भी हम लोगों की तरह स्कूल आ सकते हो.

सोहन ने रूखे स्वर में कहा- नहीं मुझे इसकी आवश्यकता नहीं है. मैं यहाँ पढ़ने आया हूँ. अपनी मांगे की अमीरी दिखाने नहीं. तुम मेरे लिए दुखी मत हो मित्र.

इसके बाद भी सोहन का मजाक उड़ाया जाना बंद नहीं हुआ.

यह बात विद्यालय के प्रधानाध्यापक तक पहुंची. उन्होंने सोहन को अपने कमरे में बुला कर पूछताछ की. इन्होने सोहन से उसको चिढाने वाले बच्चों के नाम बताने के लिए कहा. सोहन ने साफ़ मना कर दिया. उसने कहा- महोदय, मैं उनकी बातों पर ध्यान नहीं देता. मैं यहाँ केवल पढ़ने आया हूँ. मुझे किसी की शिकायत नहीं करनी.

कुछ महीनो बाद.

एक दिन प्रधानाध्यापक ने, सभी बच्चों को विद्यालय के सभागार में बुलाया. जब सभी बच्चे वहां एकत्र हो गए, तब प्रधानाचार्य सभा कक्ष के मंच पर पहुंचे. उन्होंने सोहन को मंच पर बुलाया.

इसके बाद, उन्होंने कहा- मैं आप लोगों से कुछ कहना चाहता हूँ.

उन्होंने सोहन के कंधे पर हाथ रखते हुए कहा- "मुझे यह बताते हुए गर्व हो रहा है कि सोहन ने आज परीक्षा में विद्यालय पर शीर्ष स्थान प्राप्त किया है. उसके अधिकतर विषयों में ९८ प्रतिशत या इससे कहीं अधिक अंक है. क्या तुम लोग बता सकते हो कि तुम्हे कितना अंक मिले है? सोहन के अंकों के बराबर तो किसी के अंक भी नहीं है. तुम में से अधिकतर ७८ प्रतिशत से अधिक अंक नहीं ला पाए हो."

उन्होंने गर्व के साथ सर ऊंचा करते हुए कहा- "सोहन पढ़ने में तेज है, इसकी विशेषता केवल यह नहीं. वह बहुत जिम्मेदार और समझदार बच्चा है. क्या तुम लोग जानते हो कि वह स्कूल के बाद क्या करता है?

सभी बच्चों पर एक दृष्टि डालने के बाद, कुछ रुक कर प्रधानाचार्य बोले – सोहन विद्यालय से निकल कर एक दूकान पर जाता है. वह इस दूकान में रात आठ बजे तक काम करता है. इसके बाद, घर पहुँच कर वह खाना खाने के बाद कुछ बच्चों को पढ़ाता है. इसके बदले उसे जो पैसे मिलते है, वह उसे अपने माँ और पिता को दे देता है. इस प्रकार से वह अपने घर के खर्चे में अपना योगदान करता है? क्या तुम में से कोई ऐसा करता है?

प्रधानाचार्य ने आगे कहा- एक और रहस्य की बात.इसके बाद सोहन अपनी पढ़ाई करता है. जैसा कि अब तुम जान गए हो कि वह विद्यालय में टॉप पर आया है. किन्तु, इतना ही नही. सोहन जिन बच्चों को पढ़ता है, उन सभी ने अपने विद्यालयों में टॉप किया है. क्या तुम में से किसी ने ऐसा किया है?

सभी छात्र लज्जित से चुप थे. प्रधानाचार्य ने सोहन को एक ट्राफी और नकद ईनाम दे कर सम्मानित किया. उन्होंने उसे अपने गले से लगा लिया.

सभी बच्चे तालियाँ बजा रहे थे. मोहन अपने मित्र सोहन को गर्व से देख रहा था.
